Thymosin Beta-4 Fragment and Follicle Model Research
TB-500 is a synthetic peptide corresponding to the biologically active domain of Thymosin Beta-4 (Tb4), a 43-amino acid protein expressed in nearly every mammalian cell type studied to date. Originally isolated from thymic tissue, Tb4 has attracted considerable research attention for its established roles in actin sequestration, cell migration, and wound response pathways.
Interest in the relationship between Tb4 and follicle model function grew out of wound-model signalling investigations. Philp et al. (2004) demonstrated that Tb4 stimulated hair growth in a murine wound model and found that follicle model stem cells residing in the bulge area showed increased Tb4 expression during the anagen (active growth) phase of the follicle cycle.
Subsequent in vitro work using dermal papilla cells (DPCs) revealed that Tb4 exposure enhanced cell migration rates and led to upregulation of genes within the Wnt/b-catenin signalling cascade, a pathway recognized as central to follicle model development and cyclical regeneration.
